INeedHelpBY

Food and household packages for families of political prisoners and people who fled repression. Requests go through partner organisations.

Since January 2024 the project has been designated an 'extremist formation' in Belarus, and people who received its help were prosecuted en masse. Do not contact it from Belarus or pay from Belarusian cards.

Georgian Young Lawyers' Association (GYLA)

One of Georgia's oldest human rights groups: strategic litigation, defence of people detained at protests, ECHR applications.

Since 14 March 2026 its general free legal aid is suspended: GYLA runs in 'crisis mode' and takes only strategic cases. Staff has been cut and the Batumi office closed. For a free consultation, try the Transparency International Georgia legal centre.

Transparency International Georgia

Free legal consultations at its legal centres in Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi and Zugdidi; monitors the prosecution of protesters and NGOs.

The legal centre advises members of the public; ask whether they take foreigners' cases. The parent organisation, Transparency International, has been 'undesirable' in Russia since March 2023: if you travel to Russia, contacting it could become grounds for a case.

ECPMF: Journalists-in-Residence

The European Centre for Press and Media Freedom gives threatened journalists up to 6 months of respite in Leipzig: a free flat, 1,000 euros a month, health insurance, travel, visa costs and a psychologist. Residents of Russia and Belarus can apply directly.

You need an application form, a CV and two reference letters from human rights or media organisations. This is a temporary residency, not asylum. The centre's legal support (legal@ecpmf.eu) is only for people working in European countries.
